I don't think because it is based on Norse Mythology and Kratos had the "Spartan Fury" ability.

Vikings were a good 1,000+ years after Ancient Greece.

So Kratos has to be immortal in the sense that he doesn't age and can't die from old age.

Kratos is the same Kratos, it's just a few years after God of War 3. The way Balrog put it they told you the story about Hulk, now they want to tell a story about Banner.
