Halo Wars is not bad.  I mean, I can actually play it, feel some frustration but ultimately overcome it and feel good about it.

Hmmm.  Have to think about this for a while, it's kind of thrown me.

Only thing I'd say I'd like is to be able to pull the camera back more than they allow.

This actually worries me. Is the gaming population just us guys from the 80s who are still playing? Are new gamers actually sticking with games, shouldn't the average age be lower?

Wii COD preview

Treyarch have literally thrown their entire 200 personnel team behind the project with a new hands on approach. Within this, the Wii version has been built from the ground up by a separate team, but will be almost exactly the same as its Xbox 360 and PS3 counterparts.

Despite the different teams, every area of Treyarch has touched the Wii version - from the the multiplayer team, to the single player team, even the co-op team has joined in the fray. The team are working hard to get the Wii version to match its counterparts frame-for-frame.

Lamia explained that there will be online co-op for the Wii, a rarity that is usually overlooked when it comes to Wii editions of multiformat games.

First game they've done where it's not just a down port.

It was hard not to be a little deflated by Modern Warfare Wii. Coming two years after the original and on the same day the rest of the gaming community was snapping up Modern Warfare 2, Wii owners couldn't be blamed for feeling left behind.

I was one of them and this why I agreed with ONM's controversial Modern Warfare review. While you had to applaud Treyarch for attempting to pack in everything from the original, by the time it was released it had lost the impact of the groundbreaking shooter (it looked a bit rough too).

With Call Of Duty: Black Ops, Treyarch doesn't have that problem. It must have been difficult to feel passionate about porting some other developer's game on to Wii two years after the event but this time it will be different. They have a dedicated team working on Black Ops Wii and it will be released on 9 November, at the same time as the other versions.

When this has happened in the past, it has produced good results. Both Call Of Duty 3 and World At War were excellent Wii shooters but Treyarch Studio Head Mark Lamia thinks this one "will blow you away." Is he right? Well having not seen the game in action, it's difficult to answer that question but the developers are certainly making the right noises and putting the effort in.

I met Mark Lamia at a press event on Wednesday and when I told him that I was from Official Nintendo Magazine, he seemed genuinely excited to get the opportunity to talk about the Wii version. He told me that they were working hard to make the game as similar as they possibly could to the Xbox, PS3 and PC versions. It was good to hear someone enthuse about a game on our console - he knows that there is massive potential for his team to deliver a world class first-person shooter on Wii and by putting it in the hands of a team of dedicated Wii developers, the game is not an afterthought.

I saw two levels from the HD versions and I have to admit that it did look spectacular. There was a mission which took you to a weapons manufacturing facility deep behind enemy lines in the Soviet Union. This mission was a bit stealthy with the highlight being when your character abseiled down a mountain and broke through the windows of the facility. Then it was onto a mission called Slaughterhouse. This was set in Vietnam during the Battle Of Hue City. You fly into the city in a helicopter and from the moment he swings down from the chopper it is total carnage with so many explosions that you can barely see who you're aiming at. This is undoubtedly the "cinematic experience" that Treyarch is aiming for. Now obviously the Wii version won't look as polished but Lamia talked about creating an intense experience with a rich story and a variety of gameplay. These are all achievable on Wii even if it won't look as amazing as the other versions.

Metroid Prime 3 was the last game with first person shooting action to blow us away on Wii. If Treyarch are serious about making the Wii version as similar as possible to the other versions, it has to be as good looking as Samus Aran's adventure and seeing as Corruption is now over two years old that is definitely achievable. What do you think?
