The journalist from gameblog.fr are on a leash recently. After implying that they already saw Metal Gear Solid Rising running at Kojima productions, and leaking Mizuguchi's next game code name (Child of Eden), they are now affirming that Nintendo's next console will be called Wii HiFi. According to what game developers told them, it will be announced at the right end of Nintendo's E3 conference, and it is planned to release around November 2011. Here are the details that have leaked so far:

• It should be on par with the 360
• It should not be called Wii 2 but Wii HiFi
• It will be very online-oriented this time
• Community aspects will be a big component
• It should be out around November 2011

They don't know how much Nintendo will be showing at E3 though: just the name? Maybe the design? The controller?

So what do you guys think? Isn't it too early to show it if they plan on releasing in November 2011?

Dumb article stuck in 2005 thinking. Fails to note Marvelous' HD games (and NMH port) didn't do good either, and that MadWorld was a mixed bag, and its target audience, hardcore gamers, do tend to avoid those. Doesn't note the core games that did good, implies Wii attach rate or software sales is bad which is blatantly false, etc. Edit: well, he has some valid/positive points but still skips or distorts facts to place the blame where it isn't.

Now I think about it he started off talking about New IP then turned it around and made it an about-Wii article. He could have railed off a few million + selling core games I guess.

Maybe it would be like saying Dark Void and Mirror's Edge failed on HD consoles and trying to use that example to say something about the whole userbase. It's depressing either way.

Wii Sports this ain't

In the world of video games, a little star power always helps. Epic Games and Microsoft Game Studios are apparently pushing that celebrity angle for "Gears of War 3," as they've tapped Drake, the Grammy-nominated artist behind the current hit "Find Your Love," to play one of the game's main characters, Jace Stratton.

"When Epic came to me with the role, I couldn't pass it up," the actor-turned-rapper said in a press release. "They've created an amazing character in Jace, and I'm looking forward to my tour in Delta Squad."

Jace Stratton only appeared briefly in "Gears of War 2," and in that game the character was voiced by Nolan North. But the character has played a much more prominent role in the "Gears of War" comic book series. Stratton is one of the four playable characters in "Gears of War 3," which comes out in 2011, so Drake will get plenty of screen time.

Epic Games executive producer Rod Fergusson said in the release that timing was everything when it came to deciding that Drake, whose debut album "Thank Me Later" comes out Tuesday, was right for the part. "[Drake's EP] 'So Far Gone' had just been released, and Drake's combination of heart and grit was just what we were looking for. Rather than search for somebody who sounded like him, it was clear that we should approach him directly ... fortunately he turned out to be a huge fan."

"Gears of War 3" completes the story of Marcus Fenix and his battle against the Locust on the planet of Sera. For the first time in the franchise, the game will support four-player cooperative play throughout the main campaign, in addition to a range of new multiplayer modes and features.
