Reading through GAF's official thread, it would appear so. Bummer. It would have been awesome to fight classic CV monsters while listening to a revamped classic soundtrack with orchestrated arrangements.
At the very least, it seems to be a solid action game that was seemingly rushed out a bit, if we pay attention to complaints about framerate issues.
^ Probably going to be trading it in or returning it tomorrow.
This is NOT CastleVania.
Lucky for me I love action games but I am so sad that it doesn't use the classic CV enemies and such as Steel mentioned. Such a wasted oppertunity. BTW I am replaying SOTN just so that I dont feel so left out on CV mania.
Pfft. You keep your mild mannered characters with delicately sculptured faces. I shall be whipping medusa heads and fleamen in true Belmont fashion tonight with a bit of VC Castlevania 3.
I plan to play that as well, I think I will play a few CV games. But SOTN is soooooo much better than CV3.
Oh, sorry about that. Leo, sorry I didn't reply sooner.
But it's: DQRocket Slime
And Leo, maybe we can play Castlevania HD if I ever get things running again.

Just finished Deadly Premonition -- as much as I will be able to. After 18+ hours I single save slotted myself into an un-winnable multi-phase boss battle. Watched the ending on Ytube.
I have only myself to blame. I did not stop on the rollercoaster ride that the lead up to the final battle is without stocking up on health packs. I won't spoil the boss at all, but I'll say that there is no way to get through it with one health bar.
I'd give the game an 11 out of 10 but for the end boss, it's going down to 9.
Not the way I wanted to end this game, the last 5 hours of it are stupifying. I spent most of the time agog at the curve balls the story throws at you in the final act. Such a good game.
Yay!
That reeks of shitty game design. I'd say you're the last person to blame here. If anything you should be commended for your bravery by trying out a game that seemed to shout out: "I FUCKING SUCK BALLS!"
You shut your whore mouth.
We should play CV3 together. Let me know if you're interested.
^I hear ya Steel. Fuck I wanted to smash that controller into the ground.
One of the phases of the boss battle has you moving the L stick to the right and left non-stop for minutes, stopping you only for QTE's that you need to input at lightning fast speeds, only to punish you if you pull off the QTE but don't go back to the left/right motion fast enough. This goes on for several minutes before you get to the "real" boss battle (and after you have already gone through the first phase of the battle).
It's the absolute worst way to end an otherwise enjoyable game. And the thing is, if I had just had ONE health pack going into it I'd be okay. Prior to this battle you are sealed off from the rest of the game world, where you save, so I can;t even go back and get any health.
Shucks. I think I'll take another swing at my GTA4 save file.
Well that's very unfortunate to hear about Castlevania. I knew it was a God of War clone but I thought it would at least be dressed up to at least appear to be Castlevania. Classic monsters, classic music, etc. with GoW controls. Oh well, I'll go back to Super Castlevania IV. Easily the most underrated entry of the series.
You DON'T disregard loyal fans of a series when doing a reboot.
You put just enough familar elements in a new game to satisfy old fans while injecting new ideas as well.
So far I've seen NOTHING familar... other than the name Belmont. His outfit doesn't count. I'm really supposed to recognize what he wears as being similar to what an 8-bit sprite wore...? Really...? Really?
Kojima and Mercury Steam pretty much slapped the name on a
Dante's InfernoGod of War clone......the "new ideas" are actually copies of ideas from OTHER games! The Titan battle was fun for all of 30 seconds. Having a "Grip" button suddenly imposed on you, being flicked off of a Colossus again and again. They took a chance of it being "cool" and failed. It was just annoying. CastleVania Boss Battles are all about skill and patterns --NOT-- about having enough patience to wait while a behemoth flails about... following the "HOLD R2 to Grip!" prompt on the screen... which inevitably is wrong and getting thrown from the damn boss because of it.
The hand-holding is obnoxious. The story and acting are overdone...
...I am torn. I have heard that references start later in the game... There's just nothing there from the start to make me keep wanting to play.
It does not bode well when in the back of my mind while playing, I am saying to myself: "I could be playing Mass Effect right now!"
...Yeah. I'd rather be playing a 3 year old game than a "New" CastleVania...
Aspro that sounds like a RE kind of game design, meaning I like it.
Steel how do we play CV3 together? I'm interested.
Their first job is to make a great game, which is something no 3D CV has been able to be. It sucks having no connections but as long as its good I will be happy.
Yeah. Sucks to hear bad impressions about Castlevania.
But you shouldn't sell it, Leo. I'm sure it's still a good game underneath all that.
I'm sure it's better than Lament of Innocense or Curse of Darkness.
