Finally played some DKC Returns!
All I have to say is, "WOW!" This game is so damn fun! This is one of the most fun platformers I've ever played! And I'm not really a DKC fan!
Retro really did an amazing job with this game. I think I had a huge smile on my face the whole time I've been playing this. And I agree with Leo: this is, hands down, a much better platformer than NSMB Wii, even though I love NSMB Wii.
The Graphics:
The graphics are one of the best on the Wii. Being in 2.5D also brings so many more gameplay elements to the table, like multiple layers, and cool effects, which you can't do with 2D. Well, you can with mode 7, but it doesn't look as good.
The Controls:
Also, the controls are tough to get used to at first, but don't listen to the Nintendo Power guy. He has no idea what he's talking about. The controls are easy to handle once you get used to it. Shaking the Wii-mote to roll, blow, or stomp is tough to adjust at first, but after a few levels, it's easy. There's nothing where I died because I did the wrong move.
And I have no idea what the Nintendo Power guy is saying when he mentions that the bosses aren't original. I thought the bosses I played so far were funny, and a challenge. I died a few times with the first boss, but it was still really fun.
Easily, one of the best 2.5D platformers I ever played. As far as 2.5D, I think this is the best one.
Also to Travo and Leo, or any others who have this, which controls do you prefer? Wii-Mote or Wii-Mote+Nunchuck? I prefer to play just with the Wii-Mote since it's more comfortable, like how I play NSMBWii .
Anyway, it's the most fun I had all year with a video game! Really fun!

I agree that the bar has been set higher with DKC Returns.
Easily the best platformer on the Wii. It's better than New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which I also love.
As far as surpassing Super Mario Galaxy 2? I don't know about that since ones a 3D platformer and DKC is 2.5D. It's arguable though.

I kinda like the wiimote/nunchuk combo because I like to imitate the ground pound. But I have been playing with the Wii remote lately. I wonder why they didn't utilize allt the buttons like the B trigger and C-button? Maybe there will be a use for them later in the game.
New Castlevania did not chart on NPD, but now this story is making the rounds:

Note SHIPS, not sold. Which means expect this to be on sale pretty soon.

It seems like most sites got a copy just this weekend, maybe its to prevent rushed reviews but I doubt it. I think they figured everyone expects great things for it so positive reviews wont help but negative ones could hurt.
I just don't see how anyone would give this a negative review.
But you still never know.
