A lot of people say that the 3DS stuff looks much much nicer when seen in their true 3D form than when seen on a computer screen in 2D

Well that might be me out with Wii U.
Handhelds are like knives to my joints. Normal controls are bad enough! They're thick pins...
That's cool to know... they are proving to be quite the diverse little studio.
Mmhhmm. Good point. Super Mario Universe is coming for the home console though (where else do you go after Galaxy?).
If anyone was considering listening to the giantbomb podcast for "day zero" do yourself a favor and skip the first 90 minutes (it's 3 hours 19 in length, you won't be missing out). For the first 90 minutes they have two tools from MS on in full-sell mode vis a vis Kinect. It's uncomfrotable listening.
At the 90 min mark they leave and Jeff and Brad take their places and from then on it's a normal bombcast.
Super Mario 3DS has a lot of elements borrowed from Super Mario Bros. 3 ... The leaf and tanouki suit, the airboats, the musical note blocks and others. Hope we can count on the Koopalinks and many other great things from SMB3 finding their way in SM3DS

Vader is crying somewhere.
How is a console coming with a controller news?
Thanks Leo for the summary. The Zelda Inception is going to be awesome.

Miyamoto is trolling everyone so hard with Pikmin.
So now Pikmin Wii is canceled and maybe there will be a Pikmin U.
OHHHH the controller will not be sold separately at all meaning you cant buy a second one. Now I get it. Wow that is crazy. What if it breaks? Basically that means your whole console breaks?
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT.
They probably just don't want the negative press from all the "omg one controller costs $100!!!!!" or whatever since you're only meant to have one of those, which comes with the system, and the rest players use Wii controllers (which everyone already has). I'm sure that after it settles in the public's mind that you aren't supposed to buy 4 of the stuff like you had to buy 4 wiimotes, they'll offer replacements in stores too. Maybe not prominently, but like you can buy replacement power supplies etc. So yeah, don't throw it

So the controller is so damn expensive they are afraid to release it on its own. The system still costs money. I am thinking $300 for the whole thing.
Some of the same thoughts. #1 being simplicity. If you sold them seperately it's a bit complicated to explain to parents how all these controls work. Parents will be happy about not having to get new controllers though. Everything in the box, you get to use old controllers and old games. I am sure that is part of the value proposition Reggie is talking about.
It gives them room to go a bit higher on the price since you won;t be spending $60-$70 per extra controller.
I would not want to be the parent of 2 similarly aged kids though (fighting over who gets the "big controller".
I guess also that rules out local multiplayer that requires traditional controlls (not that that matters anymore).
Nintendo of America is always cool about maintenance and repair. You'll be able to at least get a replacement from the Nintendo Shop. I;ve used them many times before and they are fast and cheap.
Why rule that out? Classic control style will be worked in at least in some forms, for the main controller's dual analog sticks, face and shoulder buttons, etc. Sure, it will have the touch functions too where applicable, giving that player a unique role in the local multiplayer modes or whatever, but yeah, might as well support the Wii Classic Controller. We'll see how Nintendo and how third parties handle it.
But seriously, watch that embed on the last page, it's an extended version.

Have you seen how third parties have treated the Wii?
Yes, if you and I ran Activision, for example, that is what we would do. But from what I can gather most publishers would say, "There's only one in the box, we can't assume people have classic controllers, next!"
Level 5 CEO of Nintendo's conference (regarding the 3DS) -- what on earth could he mean -- did he think he was at GDC?
