Wii U: Nintendo kept own devs in dark


Nintendo kept even the most senior internal developers in the dark about the capabilities of Wii U

Yoshiaki Koizumi - veteran developer, director and producer of games spanning The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (the original) to Super Mario Galaxy - admitted that even he didn't have the full Wii U picture beforehand.



"As a developer at Nintendo, I had some information about the new system, but I didn't really have all of the information prior to the announcement at our presentation," Koizumi told Wired's GameLife blog.



"I only knew some of the things that were considered to be safe."

So this is why there was no first party software, 3rd parties could just port their current HD projects but Nintendo couldn't do the same.

Vader, the E3 3DS trailers are finally up on the 3DS shop, I see what you mean about RE Revelations 3D. They have set up two viewpoints for a bog standard 3D effect but don't seem to have done anything with the actual game or visuals to take advantage of it. The graphics are good though.

You can really see how the trailers for the other games pop in 3D. They have trailers up for Starfox, Mario Kart, Super Mario and Zelda.

I'm not buying Starfox, wasn't interested but seeing it in 3D is great - the ship hovers above the screen and you can see how they improved all the fire and water effects and added shaders too as well as improving the character models. Mario Kart looks nice and smooth and when the camera is spinning you can see the 3D pop too. Shame that they are using a few tracks from the older games like Mario Kart Wii used a couple of GC and DS tracks as well. I'm not sure if its lazy or if you could count them as bonus levels - I suppose that if they do the standard 4 new levels per 4 new championships then anything extra is a bonus.

Zelda looks clear and deep, but we already know about that.

Super Mario 3D looks great, I love how they angled the levels slightly downward so it looks like there is a board game slightly popping out of the screen and they are very clever, the overhead birds eye sections, when mario jumps up he pops out of the screen. Really cool, cannot wait for this one now - looks so much better in 3D.
