Wait, 8gb RAM? Is this correct?

8GB of VRAM (Graphics card) and 16GB system RAM,which is industry standard these days. Most PC games will run just fine on those specs.

Why does it even need 8Gb,there's no screen on it.  😋

I do agree with GG though, it should have been more. They're promising raytracing just like sony and ms did, but 8Gb won't cut it. Even more so since this is 'just' a PC and not bespoke hardware devs will spend time optimalizing for.

I'd agree if valve was going for a next gen experience. They're clearly shooting for a PC equivalent of a current gen console.

24GB of total system RAM (8GB+16GB), which is more total RAM than the Switch 2, PS5 and series X.

It'll be just fine.

It'll be fine competing with 5 year old systems. For a non upgradable pc I'm not sure that's enough. Unless it sells cheaper than PS5 and XsX.

I don't believe valve is competing against the consoles directly. I think they just want to make PC gaming as easy as possible for people to get into it.

But who is their demographic?  I'd argue that there are 2 kinds of PC gamers: the hardcore who care about pixels, shaders and frames per second who are sufficiently tech savvy to create their own bespoke streaming solution to stream their PC powerhouse to their tv, and on the other end the casual gamers who game on PC because that's what they already own for study or work and they don't see the point in buying an expensive box to put under their telly.  Is there really enough middle ground for this to be succesfull?

At least with the SteamDeck there was a unique selling point.  It's a Switch for PC gamers!  The Gabecube doesn't have anything that comes close to that as a selling point.  Unless it's priced very competitively, which I doubt as Valve won't want to take a hit with every unit sold and they won't be able to get as good a deal on parts as Sony and MS.
