Just made it to The Pirates of the Caribbean world yesterday. I’m surprised at how fun it is.
Good points on the hard drives and trophies.
So their 3 innovations: hard drives, trophies, and the now dominant version of the online platform for games. Not a bad legacy.
Though, for me personally, it is a bad legacy. There's is little justification for the cost compared to the product of modern online platforms, fuck trophies and achievements...but I suppose hard drives are an overall good.
And I don't see any of these things going away if Xbox just becomes a games delivery platform. Or even if it ceases to exist all together.
^ Yes, but I supose that would be true for all platform holders. I don't see everyone ditching analogue sticks should Nintendo drop out of the console wars, nor would gaming in general revert back to it's pre-mainstream status should Sony call it a day.
The only console manufacturer that would really be missed is, in my opinion, Nintendo. They're the only ones that will dare to do anything wildly different with their base console.
This weekend I’ve been playing some Kingdom Hearts 3. What about you fellas?
