Homey! 1UP doesn't count any more.
Neither does IGN for that matter. Gamespot is gone also, which leaves us only Eurogamer.
Neither of those ever counted either. It's time to break free from the oppression that are reviews.
Give it time, Steelio. Once Eurogamer reviews a popular exclusive and gives it a 9 instead of a 10, it will be dropped too. Leaving us with zero.
Ars technica is good. Not used in fanboy wars though
You have to take the 1-Up reviews for casual and children's games with a grain of salt. They tend to review those games for the audience that would want to play them. That's the reason why Wii Music scored a 9 over there. Personally I like that philosophy. My guess is no one here would probably want to play Toy Story 3, but maybe our kids would and they'd be the ones who'd say, "GREATEST GAME EVER MADE!!!" and score it at a similar level.
Agreed.
Because they're actually pretty good games.Well, I can't speak for Transformers, but Toy Story is rad. Plays a lot like a much less linear Sly Cooper in the main mode, and in the free mode? You can dick around and be awesome - for instance, I've dressed my towns residents as Wall-E and proceded to drop kick them off a cliff into a riff. That, and I can barrel into anyone and not get into any trouble like in RDR.
i'm sure they can. just look at the likes of carnage-heart. they loath nintendo teh kiddie and cutesy games yet they swear by games like locoroco and patapon. there's no reasoning

Yeah, going in blind is always a great idea...
I find that when all reviews are untrustworthy, the best thing to do is tally them ALL up to get the real score for any given game. Gamerankings has become very handy the last few years.
Doesn't always work, but its a hell of a lot more reliable than trusting any one source, or one guys opinion.
The only 2 guys I ever really trusted more often than not were Greg Kasavin and Matt Cassamassina...and they've both moved on from gaming reviews.
This, I never read one review. The score average is a great tool for a quick glance and a general feeling but reading multiple reviews and getting the answers to the questions you have is the most important thing.
If I review Moon for the DS will that help? I guess I could write some reviews.
I've played through nearly the first of five (?) sections of the Decepticon campaign. It IS up there, in the 8 or 9 range.
They captured the spirit of the first generation series to a --TEE-- !
The quips between characters, and just the general dialog: PRICELESS!
Random Decepticon grunt: "It's Lord Megatron!"
Megatron: "The honor is all YOURS!"
The downer attitude of Brawl is PERFECT. Starscreams's aloofness: PERFECT. Soundwave's monotone logic: PERFECT.
...but besides all that: The shooting is competent. The controls tight. You feel like you are controlling a heavy robot but a sentient one... They move like a heavy, living beings, not machines. You'll jump down hundred-feet corridors, crushing metal as you land, for example.
The vehicles WORK this time. You are presented with situations when you are juuust not mobile enough... Vehicle form gives you juuust the boost you need... but you can also hover in both forms, barrel roll, boost and turbo like a vehicle would..
This is ABSOLUTELY the definitive Transformers game... Not that there's been much competition --BUT-- it is 100% completely, totally obvious the developers --LOVED-- the original series and they have --FINALLY-- done it JUSTICE!
