Good analysis.
The only thing I'd throw in there is how this is going down in Japan -- which is where the PS3 is coming into it's stride. If the Japanese have not written off Sony over this then I think they will continue on just fine (look at the PSP for example, which died here years ago but is the best selling console of 2010 in Japan and still the best selling console on a weekly basis).
Given what Japan is going through, I doubt they think PSN being down is a big deal (in the scheme of things).
In the west... yeah... Sony would want to turn the page on the PS3 as soon as possible. Maybe try a third pillar strategy like Nintendo has in the past and release the PS4 but keep the PS3 in production and in the supply chain at a rweduced price.
It's proabbly a size thing. Save data is so tiny.
Why are you guys wasting your time on these rumors?
If Iwata states something, than it is hardly a rumour. Of course if the source is legit.
PS3 is not doing that well in Japan, not at all. It is doing better than the Wii, but that is not saying alot. Consoles are pretty much dead in Japan, it is all DS and PSP now. And in the future it will be 3DS and NGP country,
PS3 not doing well in Japan? Okay.
Mario Shampoo. Starting Bid: $1234. Check out the painting (unrelated) and the chessboard (unrelated). I think someone was a little high when they prepared this ebay sale:

"If you managed to delay purchasing Valve's gooey, robot-filled puzzler, Portal 2, your patience is about to be rewarded: Two major retailers are significantly cutting the price of the game this weekend. According to the Kmart Gamer Facebook page, the title will be marked down to $34.99 on 360 and PS3 starting May 1 -- an offer that will be running for an undisclosed period of time.
A tipster also sent in an unreleased GameStop circular, revealing that stores will have the 360 and PS3 versions of Portal 2 on sale for a slightly-less-discounted $39.99, but will also have the PC version on sale for $29.99 on April 30. No matter how you slice it, the value-to-science ratio here is simply unbelievable."
Damn it I could have saved myself $20 between this and Crysis 2 which I bought in the TRU buy 1 get half off 1
No! This year PS3 is hovering around the 20,000 sold per week mark. Not that impressive. Doing well would be selling 60,000 a week. Heck in its prime DS and Wii were easily selling 100,000 a week. The PS3 has sold in Japan 6.5 millions units. Compared to the Wii's 11.5 million units. The PSP has sold 17.4 million units and the the DS 32.5 million units. Heck in its lifetime the PS2 sold 21.7 million units.
I am going to put it stronger. No matter what way you look at it. The PS3 is a complete and utter failure. When you look at the profit part (they lost all their money they made with the Ps2 and that is not counting their current fiasco), or when you look at the market share loss ( the PS2 is no PS3) and even when looking at the game library part (again the PS3 is no PS2).
Like I said the PS3 is doing well in Japan.
I'm not a fanboy, so when I say something like, "Sony is doing well in Japan" that's all I mean. I'm not saying it's lifetime sales are going to trump Wii -- if that is your concern.
Compared to the 360 and Wii -- yeah the PS3 is "going well in Japan".
Also, unlike a fanboy, my comments were not centered around the relative success of the PS3. My larger comment, which you were unwilling or unable to comprehend was that Sony's strategy with the PS3 will be determined by what is happening in Japan, not the west.
Am I calling you a fanboy troll? Yes.
EDIT: I never even said it was doing well.
You are expert at trolling. I said, "PS3 is coming into it's stride". As in gaining momentum.
dissection time
No, not my concern. I will state it again. Consoles are pretty much dead in Japan. That includes the Wii, which to my knowledge is a console.
Yeah, let's compare them to that. Of course if you compare it to the handhelds, it is not doing so well
Oh reaaaaalyyy? Number crunchig time. Did Sony recently said that they sold 50 million PS3 worldwide? Of course it is a shipped number, but let's me really mean. They sold 25 million worldwide. Now we know that thanks to Mediacreate that they sold 6.5 million in Japan. This mean that they sold 18.5 million in the rest of the world. That is more than twice the number they sold in Japan. So you are saying that they going to decide the strategy of the PS3 is going to be determined what is happening in Japan, while it is responsible for less than a third of total sales? And these numbers where chosen to work in your favour. Your logic where is it?
And goody. Fanboy of what. Cold hard facts and logic? If you mean that, than guilty as charged!
And I was saying sure it is hitting its stride, it used to crawl, know it is walking limp. In the grand scheme of this it is not doing well.
Only a troll would waste his time dissecting a frivolous forum post.
Don't worry, just because you are a troll doesn't mean that you are not just a troll. You are also very intelligent and funny.
This is what I think of your manners:
I think that is a smurf in a kilt.
I denied being a fanboy.
Never denied being a troll. I am a troll and damn pround of it!
Troll POWERRRRRRRR
Indeed.
turning the page:
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride’s DS remake is not only back in stock at Amazon, it’s now discounted to $19.99 for a limited time! It’s a Gold Box sale, though, so it will end in four hours or whenever the online retailer runs out of copies, so you’ll want to pick up the revered RPG quick.
Good points. I just can't see Sony pumping a few billion in R&D into a new machine right now, especially with that handheld coming. Moreover, what could the PS4 really offer above the PS3 besides slightly better graphics and a stable online infastructure? It would need some kind of reason to exist. The new Nintendo is a significant jump up for them....there's reason and need behind it. I think the best thing Sony could do is drop the PS3 way down in price, and go out of their way to get major exclusive games on it like they used to with their older consoles.
