It's bound to have some internal memory and memory card support to expand that, but the point is to be able to sell games in retail, unless they want another PSP Go in their hands, so yeah, whatever flash device they use for retail distribution will basically be like what Nintendo has sticked to all these years, which is cartridges.

Yeah I just read that story about Hirai saying that PSP2 wont be download exclusive in terms of how you get your games. I don't see them ditching UMD unless cost wise and capacity wise it makes sense.

I'll be curious to see what happens if the next PSP has to use a cartridge. The 3DS will be using a cartridge, it and looks to only have slightly better graphics than the PSP right now. Not sure what cart of tech Sony will have in their cartridges but I can't imagine it being any more advanced than what Nintendo will offer. So my new question would end up being, will the PSP2's game really look that much different than the current gen?

Of course you can do it. I did it. I make no apologies for pirating ancient games. I rarely used it though. I did however find a good emulator for Colecovision and had every game on it the system had and I gave that a lot of play time. Kind of strange but I actually prefer the Coleco version of Donkey Kong to the arcade one.

Um, that will be dictated mostly by the system's power, not whatever format they use. Nintendo chose to stay low(ish) end with 3DS, it's not the cartridge that hinders its abilities (though I suppose they can't go overboard with FMV but that type of content is going out of fashion anyway). Maybe Sony will too. Cartridges or memory sticks or whatever can be of high enough capacity now to fit any high quality content they want, if the system can handle it. If that's what hindered them then the shorter the game the better graphics we'd see, but if anything it's the longer and usually higher budget games that also exploit the current portables' graphical abilities. My guess is PSP2 will also remain modest in specifications but include modern shader technologies which is what people find pretty these days with the effects they allow, ie, normal mapping, lighting techniques, distortions, reflections, shinyness, etc. Which also happen to take less space as they're programming tricks, not actual content (except normal mapping).

Oh yeah Robio, I'm on issue 24 of spiderman and its got a lot better now it has the almost TV soap like girlfriend mix up comedy.

Still weirds me out when they make reference to Doris Day and Peter Sellers movies, or J Edgar Hoover. And they use the word "blamed" instead of blasted. And make reference to that 60s Russian president, Kruskeyev or something.

There are still going to be file size issues. I know there are huge flash drives out there but they're not cheap. I don't think they can make a cartridge with more than 2 GB of space on it without cost being a problem. That's sort of what I was implying when I wondering how much better the games will look.

Well unless it has HD abilities (unlikely, huge screen and size for a portable) and a 5.1 sound system, which would need high-res textures and excellent sound, I don't see file size being an issue, not one they won't be able to overcome with different techniques for what they want to achieve anyway (like Peace Walker which included compressed data that you could choose to install in the internal memory for things like codec discussion voice overs). It's FMV, textures and sound that need a lot of space. FMV isn't used as much in favor of in game cut scenes and only few games have that much dialogue, like MGS. Textures will likely remain of modest resolution with a non-HD screen and output unable to show better. There are always new programming techniques to use too, like the compression techniques which allowed the developers to fit 600MB of content in just 40MB for Jett Rocket, high res textures or normal maps that are generated on the fly from a tiny amount of data, etc.

Good to hear. The 60's were a very interesting time for comics. The medium was really changing a lot during that time and the writing improved by leaps and bounds in a lot of cases. Though at times it still can get really hokey. One of the things I always find kind of funny is how misogynistic they get too. There was an old X-men issue where one day Jean Gray/Phoenix just out of the blue starts talking about how sewed new costumes for the team and it was fairly ridiculous though amusing as hell.

Damnit, I forgot about the X-men. I need to get a collection somehow.

One bad thing about the Spiderman comics is that there is this emphasis on drawing all the little details of an overplayed battle. On TV and film it looks great, often though in the comics it gets tiring and I just want to skip to see how Spidey eventually finishes them off. It's interested to get the whole back story, especially as Mary Jane is always played up. In the comics it's all about Betty Grant, his first girlfriend at the moment and lots of Flash Thompson comedy.

Damnit, if it was a good port I would get it. From what I've heard it's pretty bad.

I'm guessing it's like Bully, I have the wii and 360 versions. The 360 version hands down has better graphics but then it's framerate is so sluggish and it has all these glitches which means it's still better to play the Wii version.

It's so annoying when they mess up an up port.

Huh? In their native resolution the pics don't look so hot.

EDIT:

In fact when you actually look at the screens, you can see they actually just ported the levels and re-made the character models. In the cutscenes it looks good, the actual gameplay levels is the wii code ported. You can tell if you played the first game as its so low res, even in the pics.

The models are mostly the same too, they were very high quality on Wii as well, just with too low res textures (tbh the Wii can do much better than NMH) and not so great lighting, not to mention that weird blur filter. The port gives them high res textures, normal maps, shine, etc. Wii NMH models in Source (not good custom poses tbh):

I think the textures were touched up or at least filtered to look less blurry as well but the geometry is as it is on Wii. You can notice the blockier parts in the port screenshots as well, like the first bosse's fingers on the glass, Travis' angular sleeve ends, and other stuff which show the geometry is either the same or not much improved. Better textures and lighting that didn't emphasise the flaws would have done wonders for the game's visuals on Wii. And a less twitchy looser camera. And some more nice stuff in the levels. And stuff. Basically a little higher budget...
